About Us
PortaTherm was invented by Amy Smith in the mid 90s. Since then numerous people have kindly given their time and energies to push this project forward. The current team members are enormously grateful for everyone's help over the years.
The team is currently based out of D-Lab of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The Inventor
Amy Smith, 44, is a Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at MIT. She is dedicated to using technology innovatively to solve problems in the developing world. Her inginuity and numerous inventions have been acclaimed internationally, and she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2004 in recognition of her achievements.
